Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
The Mallorca’s tapas culture began during the 2008 financial crisis in Spain, La Crisis. Bars were not making enough sales on weekdays. So to increase sales, the local bar owners ... morecame up with the "Ruta Martiana" concept. It was all about reasonable prices and every Tuesday evening one drink ordered was accompanied with tapas. The tapas was made of a slice of bread with vegetables, fish, or meat toppings. The Ruta Martiana idea filled up the empty bars bringing old and new friends together as others sat on the lovely walkways and checking out different bars. It is a cherished Spanish ceremonial dinner that has been extended to the present day. It is a must try when visiting Mallorca. On this Mallorca tapas tour, we will stroll the streets of Palma to sample the best tapas bars. Each bar has a custom-made tapas accompanied with either a glass of local wine, soft drink or a cold beer. As we continue with the tour, you can also try the biggest tortilla in Mallorca, some authentic Spanish jamón, fresh fish pinchos, or some grilled rib lambs. If you are spoilt for choice, kindly ask your guide to advice on the most delicious delicacy.

Sonoma, California, United States
“Wine is made in the vineyard, not the winery, as most winemakers acknowledge. Travelers can get out among cordons and clusters – maybe even nibble the new vintage right from the vine ... more– with the Sonoma Wine & Walking Tour…” – Wine Enthusiast
As a company and personally, we love Sonoma County and have been running tours to Sonoma for many years. On this tour, meet other wine lovers and like-minded people. On a small group tour, you have the opportunity to meet other people who have the same interests – travel, culture, food, and wine! You may even meet your next travel partner!
Sonoma's beauty comes from its diversity, ranging from 60 miles of Pacific coastline on the west to the Mayacamas Mountain on the eastern edge of Napa County; from the large expanses of rural fields including vineyards to quaint small towns, such as Geyserville and Healdsburg, where we base our trip. Sonoma County is also incredibly laid-back given the intensely successful nature of its tourism and wine industries.
Explore this wonderful and colorful wine region in an intimate and truly special way on our 3-day Sonoma Wine & Walking Tour. Having the opportunity to walk through the vineyards allows for you to have a much more intimate experience than if you would do this tour by car. Personally experience the winemakers’ personalities as they offer you a rich education in (and a better understanding of) the wine-making process, the local flora, and fauna, the views from a nearby ridge top, or even lunch among the vines – all experiences you wouldn’t have from the back seat of a car. This unique Sonoma County Vineyard Walk 3-day excursion includes a personal guide that will take you on invigorating walks through private vineyards, with each excursion ending in a local wine tasting.
TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 Depending on how and when you arrive in the area, our guide will meet you at 1:00 pm either at the Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa or our host hotel, whichever is more convenient for you.
From there, we’ll head straight to our first vineyard walk and wine tasting in the Russian River Valley. This AVA is named after the first non-native settlers to come to the area and has a rich history as many consider it the birthplace of Sonoma County wine because the first grapes were planted here. The Russian River Valley is known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as other cool-climate loving varietals.
After our walk and tasting, we will check into our hotel, if you haven’t done so already. If there is time prior to dinner, we recommend visiting one of the local tasting rooms. This evening we’ll enjoy a casual, but delicious dinner in the area.
DAY 2 Today, we’ll discover the picturesque Dry Creek Valley. This AVA produces a wide variety of excellent wines but is best known for their world-class zinfandels. Its diversity is due to the unique mix of different soil types, elevations, sun exposure, wind, and water – all within a narrow 16-by-2-mile valley. We’ll head out for our walk to explore another stunning vineyard and cap it off with a lovely wine tasting.
We recommend having lunch at the iconic Dry Creek General Store that was established in 1881 and offers a tasty variety of sustainably-made food. This afternoon, we’ll head to our second wine tasting of the day. If you have a specific place you’d like to visit, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Later, we’ll enjoy dinner at one of the world-class restaurants in the area.
DAY 3 On our last day together, we’ll meet after breakfast to head out for our last vineyard walk. After a couple scenic miles on foot, we’ll arrive at our final wine tasting of the tour. Afterward, we’ll head back to the hotel to check out. We’ll say our farewells and shuttle you back to the Santa Rosa airport or leave you to extend your stay in the area.
TOUR ACCOMMODATIONS The Dry Creek Inn is a Tuscan-style getaway conveniently located in the northern part of Sonoma County, just outside of Healdsburg’s downtown area. Relaxing by the outdoor firepits, or lounging poolside with a glass of wine in hand, it is the perfect place to unwind from a busy day and your big city concerns.
*Please note: Hotels are subject to availability. If the listed hotel is not available at the time of the tour, a hotel that is equal or better to the original will be secured.
Madrid, Community Of Madrid, Spain
Join a member of the Spanish Wine Tasting Association on a walking tour of his favorite restaurants to learn how to pair the signature tapas of the country with unforgettable winesyou ... morewill not find in bars or other tapas tours.
Old Town Madrid Gourmet Tapas and Wine Tasting Walking Tour Description The evening begins in a 19th-century tavern sipping on the aperitif of the city, “vermut de grifo”, which we will pair with olives and a traditional Madrid tapa: “Soldaditos de Pavía“.
Next, I’ll whisk you off to my favorite ham bar to taste Spain’s finest food: “Jamón Ibérico de bellota“, which we will pair with Victoria 2 best Spanish white wine (Gourmets Wine Guide). The wine has intense melon aromas and flavors that compliment the ham to perfection. We will also taste other iberico cold cuts like chorizo, lomo and salchicon. Next comes the famous Spanish omelette. A dish hard to pair due to one ingredient: onion, a well-known wine killer. Luckily, Manzanilla, the most original Spanish wine, pairs onion to perfection. We will taste my favorite: Manzanilla Solear Pasada en Rama International Wine Challenge 2013 Gold Medal
It is now time to go deeper into Old Madrid through its narrow cobblestone streets and make our way to a restaurant housed inside an 18th-century mansion! We will sit down to taste Presa Iberica, Spain’s favorite cut of Ibérico pork, which accounts for a mere five pounds of the pig’s weight, hence the price of forty dollars a pound.
Now is perfect time to begin with the reds. We will start with Rioja Viña Ardanza 2008 best Spanish wine (Wine Spectator) Depending on group size I will open more premium red wines from the most exciting Spanish wine regions: Rioja, Priorato, Ribera del Duero and Toro.
To round off the night we will taste two unforgettable dessert wines: • 25-year-old PX La Cañada, best sweet Spanish wine (Gourmets Guide). The wine will perform a miracle by turning vanilla ice cream into rum & raisins ice cream with a caramel note and a toffee finish. • Alvear PX de Añada, one of the very few Spanish wines to achieve the highest honor in the world of wine: Robert Parker 100 points. What we will have this wine with is so surprising that I ‘d rather keep it secret.
Tuscany is one of the great destinations of Italy and, indeed, of the entire world. The beautiful scenery comes from the large tracts of agricultural land placed on rolling hills, ... moredotted with cypress tress and crossed with the famous strada bianchior white-colored dirt roads.
It is hard to say whether Tuscany is better known for its food or its wine and this toss-up is what makes this region perfect for a combination Food & Wine Vacation.
We start our tour in Florence, capital of the Medici, and hit major areas including Chianti, Arezzo, Assisi, and Montepulciano, with a side trip into Umbria. Our days are filled with wine tastings, visits to local food producers and sellers, and even truffle hunting in the forests visited by few tourists.
Tuscany is a spectacular region for a vacation and there is no better way to visit than to focus on the local food and wine. (Note: We can cater to almost any food allergy or eating preference on this and all our tours.)
Tour Itinerary
DAY 1 We meet at our Florence hotel at 1:30 PM and set off on an exploratory walk of the city, focusing on the history and culture of the city through the eyes of a food lover. (If you wish to visit the David or any of the other impressive historical sites, you should plan on arriving to Florence a day early.) Your guide, Giovanni, is a wealth of knowledge about all things Tuscany – food, wine, history, and culture. In the late afternoon, we’ll stop at B.Gallo, a “loungeaperitif” where we’ll toast the waning day with a Prosecco, the famous Italian sparkling white wine.
We’ll then make our way to a quaint family-owned restaurant for a lovely welcome meal. After dinner, we head back to the hotel and rest up for tomorrow’s adventures – our first full food and wine day in Tuscany.
DAY 2 We check out of our hotel and begin our day by exploring the Saint Ambrogia Market. This diverse market is less touristy than say Mercato Central which means we get a glimpse of how everyday Tuscans shop for their daily meals. We’ll have time to stop and sample the wares of the various merchants along the way.
Next, we are off to one of the most famous wine regions with one of the most famous wine styles in Italy: Chianti. Our first stop is the picturesque city of San Gimignano, a small medieval walled town famous for its dozen or so towers sticking up into the sky. After exploring the town on foot, we’ll head to the local Fattoria Poggio Alloro for a lunch of food products from this farm, such as the Chianina brand of beef and the saffron spice which has been locally grown since the 13th century, paired with the white wine Vernacciadi, also grown on site.
Next on our agenda is the winery Castello di Volpaia, which is located in a fortified village of the same name and where we’ll do a tasting of the famous Chianti Classico wine. We finally head to our hotel for the night, Dievole, an exquisite country retreat on 1000 acres with vineyards that were planted as early as 1090 – over 900 years ago! We’ll visit their cellars and then eat dinner outside in the garden if the weather is good, with wines from the estate paired with our courses
DAY 3 We drive in the morning to Arezzo to visit Vestri Cioccolato, a chocolate maker that has been producing delicious chocolate for 30 years and which owns its own farm in the Dominican Republic. Not only do they make their own chocolate but they also roast their own coffee. We’ll learn about the chocolate-making and roasting processes and, of course, sample a few of their creations.
We then jump back in our vehicle to transfer to the center of town where you can explore the various cafes and restaurants for lunch on your own. After lunch, we visit the nearby small town of Anghiari, famous as the site of the Battle of Anghiari in 1440 between the armies of Florence and Milan. This is also your guide Giovanni’s home in Tuscany.
Next, we’ll visit the world-famous Busatti linen factory, sold in such outlets as William & Sonoma. This family-run business has been based in Anghiari since 1842. The factory tour is extremely interesting and you can purchase products to take home, although they are not cheap!
We head to the walled town of Sansepolcro to check into our hotel for an hour’s rest and then visit a local hotspot, Enoteca Guidi, which is a combination wine bar and restaurant that serves outstanding local cuisine in a casual setting.
DAY 4 Most tourists don’t make it to the section of Tuscany called the Upper Tiber Valley. Even fewer travel to the hamlet of Badia Tedalda, 40 minutes up into the Apennine Mountains. But it is here we will travel this morning, specifically to visit Augusto Verando Tocci, a botanist famous for his pursuit of the equally famous truffle.
Verando will take us into the forest with his trusted dog to look for truffles, which can be found in this area at any time of the year. Successful or not, we will return to his home to participate in a cooking class and lunch involving many of the edible plants and roots found in the forest, including the local liquor Spinello.
After lunch, we’ll return to Sansepolcro for walking tour of this adorable village with a stop at Pasticcera, a local bakery and artisanal gelateria. Many gelato stores in Italy do not make their own product but purchase it from a big manufacturer, so this will be a special visit.
Our dinner tonight is at Relais Palazzo di Luglio, situated on 30 acres in the countryside outside Sansepolcro. The owner Giuliano previously owned one of the most successful restaurants in town and produces an elegant, traditional Tuscan dinner featuring whatever is in season.
DAY 5 Yes, this is a food and wine tour of Tuscany but nearby Umbria is well worth a visit. We’ll start out with a visit to the very small and local olive oil mill of Emanuele Ragani and his family. Emanuele will not only show us how the mill, with an actual grist stone, operates but will fire up a wood oven, heat up bread, and pour delicious olive oil on top for a tasting.
We then head to Assisi, the city made famous by St. Francis, for a tour of the city and the church where he is buried. Assisi is a great town to walk around on your own, with many shops and restaurants, and we are on our own here for lunch. After lunch, we’ll head to Arnaldo Caprai winery, a leading producer of the wine Sagrantino di Montefalco. If you have never had Umbrian wine before, you will be impressed.
After our wine tasting, our time in Umbria is ended and it is back to Tuscany as we drive to Cortona, made famous by the book Under the Tuscan Sun our home for the evening. We’ll check into our hotel and then walk to dinner at La Bucaccia, rated the top restaurant in Cortona on Trip Advisor (out of 84 restaurants) serving, as one recent reviewer wrote, “wild boar ragu with tagliatelle, pici with an intense tomato sauce, a pecorino flan, seasonal vegetable soup, and bruschetta to die for.”
DAY 6 The Val d’Orcia is one of the most beautiful sections of Tuscany, which is one of the most beautiful provinces of Italy, which is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We are in a good place!
We’ll start our tour by visiting the city of Pienza, perched high above the valley and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (The entire valley is designated a World Cultural Landscape.) After a quick historical walking tour of the city, we’ll head to a local farm that specializes in making pecorino, the ubiquitous local sheep’s cheese. We’ll learn about the process, have a taste of the fresh cheese, and eat a nice picnic lunch right on the farm.
It is then on to Montepulciano, another famous hilltop town, where you will have an hour to wander the streets on your own. We then gather together again to visit Cantine Gattavecchi for a tour of their barrel room and tasting of the local wine, the outstanding Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Heading back to Cortona, we’ll share a final meal together at the Locanda al Pozzo Antico, a fine dining establishment run by the owner Paola where we’ll try to outdo our previous successes with Tuscan cuisine.
DAY 7 We’ll take a post-breakfast walk of Cortona, as Giovanni will point out some of the important sites that featured in Under the Tuscan Sun. You are then free to take the train or a shuttle onwards to Florence or Rome (Check out Extend Your Stay: What To Do in Italy). Or perhaps you’ll follow the theme of the book and decide to stay in Tuscany?

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Full-bodied red and white wines from some of the greatest and highest rated wineries in all of Spain served in exclusive cellars with a gourmet lunch of fresh, local delicacies.... more
After picking you up from our central meeting point at 8:30am, we'll drive 1h 45m to the incredibly beautiful and rugged Priorat wine region, with it's steep hills covered from top to bottom in craggy vines. First on the agenda is a visit the tiny village of Morera de Montsant to take in the stunning views at the foothills of Montsant. From here you will be able to get an overview of the entire region and your guide will give you a bit of an orientation. Afterwards, we'll duck into a small winery for a three-product tasting of terrific Priorat wines.
The next stop is the village of Gratallops, where we will head for a private tour and tasting at the renowned Clos Figueres winery and estate. This winery is run by Christopher Cannan, who is known for being one of the first in the region (along with Alvaro Palacios, Rene Barbier and Josep Lluis Perez) and is quite a charming character. Their wines are produced with their own grapes from old vines, without watering the vines and without using insecticides or any other synthetic products. While there, you'll enjoy a fantastic, traditional lunch in the winery.
After lunch, we'll drive to the tiny village of Porrera to meet with Paco Castillo-Serrano of the family-run Clos Dominic winery to tour their beautiful vineyards and taste their fabulous vintages. This old-vine vineyard (with many vines over 100 years old) was purchased by Paco and his wife, Dominic, in 1998 when they began to fulfill their dream of creating their own wines. To this day, they manage and harvest their vineyards with help only from family and friends. Once we finish our visit and tasting with Paco, we'll begin the drive back to Barcelona, arriving to the city around 7-8pm.
This price of this all-inclusive small group day trip is 190 EUR / person. Included in the price are transport in one of our modern touring vans, a very knowledgeable and personable, English-speaking guide, a great traditional lunch, and generous wine tastings at three fantastic wineries. This day trip is more expensive than our D.O. Penedes tour because the Priorat region is much more exclusive than other Catalan wine regions and as a result, the winery visits and meals are more expensive, as well. Winery visits and tours are always private and are nearly always attended and/or led by the wine maker. Additionally, as you may already know, the wines in this region are more expensive due to the extremely harsh growing conditions, low-yielding vines, and harvesting carried out by hand, which is very labor-intensive, but the wines...and the day...are well worth it!
Important There will be a surcharge of 15 EUR / person if you end up being the only two clients on any non-private tour. Although this is not likely (especially between April and October), it would be necessary in order to cover guide fees and other costs that would normally be covered by having more than two clients on the tour. The positive side of the supplement is that you would end up getting a private tour at a fraction of the normal private touring price!

Looking for a day filled with Gothic and Modernist art, architecture, astounding rock formations, unbeatable views and exceptional food and wine tasting - look no further! ... more
Our Montserrat and Wine Country day tour is a well-rounded, all-inclusive, all-day experience for travelers of all ages and interest levels. The day begins with a guided visit at the impressive Monastery of Montserrat, located 50 minutes west of Barcelona and standing at an unexpected 725 mts. / 2378 ft. above sea level.
This tour consists of a 1000 years of legend, history and culture. Legend has it that in the 9th century, shepherds claimed to have spotted the image of the black Madonna in a cave on Montserrat. The original carving was discovered and removed by local religious figures, and the first church, followed by the monastery, were established in the 11th century. By the 12th century, news spread far and wide of the miracles of Montserrat. The monastic community settled, which prompted pilgrims from around the world to flock to the sacred mountain, as they still do today. The Monastery of the Virgin was founded in 1025, reconstructed various times, destroyed by Napoleon in 1811 and rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th century by the Catalan Modernist masters, including Gaudí, himself. It is, in fact, one of the key inspirations to Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia.
The day includes: hearing the famous Boys’ Choir perform (most days), visiting the “Moreneta de Montserrat” (one of the black Madonnas of Europe) and a light walk to Santa Cova, where the black Madonna is said to have originally been found and rescued. We leave Montserrat and head over to enjoy a fantastic lunch of local Catalan country cuisine in a traditional restaurant at the base of Montserrat, followed by private field tour, guided exclusive visit and three-product wine and cava tasting at one of the premier, small, boutique vineyards in the Penedès wine region.
Montserrat and Wine Country Day Tour consist of only 2-8 guests and are guided by one of our fun, informative guides who give you a great, detailed explanation of the history of Montserrat, as well as the history of the region of Catalunya. The tour can easily be catered to both young and old, to those with or without specific religious interest, and to both wine connoisseurs and wine ‘enthusiasts’. A truly fantastic and authentic day trip outside of the city during your visit to Barcelona!
