Activity Overview
We welcome you to a hybrid, self-guided cycling and foodie tour where you savor some of the most famous food and wine in this region of France. The trip takes you through Burgundy’s markets, where biking, food, and wine meet. You will bike among the vineyards while tasting the local cheeses. You will enjoy cultural sites, like the renowned Hospice de Beaune. We will ensure that you learn about the food as we offer you a cooking experience with professional chefs, where you professionally taste the local wines, like grand cru and priemier cru, and cheeses. You will learn how to bike with confidence through Burgundy. These experiences have very specific dates, and we, therefore, recommend that you book in advance to ensure you have room on the trip!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Dijon.
You will begin your Trail to Table adventure through Burgundy the moment you arrive in Dijon, you will have free time to relax and explore. Dijon is an ancient city with cobblestone streets that are endlessly walkable. You will stop by the Palace of the Dukes, the city's centerpiece. It currently houses the Fine Arts Museum. There are a variety of alluring restaurants to choose from for dinner!

Day 2: Dijon - Vosne Romanée (30 km/ 18.6 miles).
The day kicks off with an authentic culinary delight! You will join your host for the morning, a skilled local chef, to the market (Les Halles), where you will select fresh ingredients for the cooking lesson that awaits you. Dijon's covered market hall is a perfect foodie heaven boasting rows of stalls showcasing vegetables, pastries, bread, cheeses, meats, and much more. Just remember not to fill up on too many tastings and samples before your cooking lesson! The chef will take you through traditional French cooking processes that will definitely develop your culinary repertoire while enhancing your homemade meals in future. Afterward, you will hop on your bike for a relaxing ride through the neighboring vineyards on your way to the village of Vosnes Romanée. This village is located in the heart of Burgundy wine country. On your way, you will enjoy a break as you explore Château du Clos Vougeot, a wine farm initially established by monks in the 12th century. Later on, you will settle in to enjoy the scenery from your four-star hotel on an impressive vineyard estate.

Day 3: Vosne Romanée loop (33 km/ 20.5 miles).
You will take a relaxing loop ride across the vineyards from your hotel. You will enjoy a wine tasting experience at the family-run Domaine of Côte de Nuit. You will also get a chance to savor the product of the pinot noir grapes which makes this part of Burgundy popular. Your next stop will be at the cheese factory Gaugry in Brochon. It is a fromagerie run by generations of the Gaugry family, renown for producing traditional Burgundian cheeses that perfectly complement the region's wines. You will taste their savory products, and later on, make a leisurely return ride to spend your second night in the charming Hotel Richebourg.

Day 4: Vosne Romanée – Beaune (30km/ 18.6 miles).
You will start the day with a gentle ride through elegant French landscapes on your way to Beaune. You will visit the Château Aloxe Corton, popular for its special colored roof. It is Legendary believed that Emperor Charlemagne initially granted the land in the year 775 and a vineyard was established. You will get a chance to develop your knowledge of French varietals as you savor a tasting of local wines. You will also tour the museum of Maison Fallot and the mustard factory in Beaune. Maison Fallot is a family-owned mustard mill and the last independent in Burgundy, it forms part of the region's foodie tradition for over 200 now. This Fallot produces staple ingredients used by the leading chefs of France.

Day 5: Beaune Loop (30km/ 18.6 miles ride or 5km/ 3.1 miles hike).
Your day starts with a stroll of the Patriarche cellar. The cellar is composed of five kilometers of arched cellars that date back to the 13th century and holds millions of bottles! Afterward, you will head to the Hospices de Beaune to explore rare examples of 15th-century architecture. You will have lunch, then catch up with your bike for a ride through the country roads of la Côte de Beaune region, and then make a stop for a tasting in a family-owned Domaine.

Day 6: Departure Day.
On this final day, we say 'au revoir!' After breakfast, you will depart at your leisure, hopefully with a few bottles of wine, and plenty of memories to relive your Trail to Table adventure again and again.

Distance: 31 km/day cycling
Level - Level 3 - moderately riding over rolling countryside. The region is not flat and can be hilly at some places; while flat along some of the canal routes. Distances are moderate. Longer, independent rides are possible.

From Dijon, the capitale of Burgundy, you will start to explore the two renowned wine production areas : Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Following « La Route des Grands Crus » you will discover typical and charming villages : Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Meursault, Pommard … We will show you some of the wine secrets and the delightful moments it creates.

DAY 1: Arrival in Dijon
our hotel is situated in the heart of the city. Check in and presentation of the tour, delivery of the road book, maps and tourist brochures and bicycles. Dijon is a vibrant walkable city with a wealth of great shops, restaurants, bars and a really welcoming vibe. There are many museums, churches and traditional buildings to discover including the famous « Palais des Ducs et des Etats de Bourgogne » and Notre Dame’s church. The historic centre is a classified World Heritage and we suggest you to arrive in the morning or stay some days before your trip to have time and enjoy the magnificence of Dijon. One of the way for it, is following the « Owl’s Trail » with 22 points of interest in the city. To finish, according to the legend, if you want some good luck you need to find the tiny stone sculpture of the owl at Notre Dame’s church – touch it with your left hand and make a wish ! Overnight stay at your hotel. Dinner is not included and feel free to enjoy one of the very good restaurant in the centre by walk.

DAY 2 : Dijon – Côte de Nuits vineyards – Beaune (~ 40km or ~25km with train)
After your breakfast, leave Dijon behind you slowly and ride your way up to the close countryside where begins « La Route des Grands Crus ». Then you arrive into the surrounds of Gevrey-Chambertin, the largest appellation in Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir country and where you find some of the most famous wines including Vosne-Romanée, Fixin, Chambertin-clos-de-Bèze, Flagey-Echézeaux, Vougeot, Richebourg. You continue through the wine regions of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot with vineyards all along the way on either side for a breathtaking scenery with a fresh air !
Possibly you continue by bicycle through the Highlands up to Beaune which is a nice way to go further in the vineyards or take a train from Nuit-Saint-Georges to arrive in Beaune for your overnight stay. The dinner is not included to have a choice amongst many possibilities in the restaurants in the town by walk.

DAY 3: Loop in the south surrounds of Beaune – Côte de Beaune vineyards(~30km)
To begin the day this ride will take you through the famous vineyards of Pommard, Volnay… the kingdom of Burgundy red wines. The ride is nice and mostly flat all day long. To continue some little curves allow you to go across the famous vineyards of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, charming villages which make the best white Chardonnay wines in the world.
Back to Beaune in the afternoon. Overnight stay in the same hotel. The dinner is not included to have a choice amongst different suggestions in many restaurants and bars in the town.

Day 4 :
After your breakfast the tour is over with us but please contact us for other options and stay longer in Beaune to enjoy the beauty.

Sunday – DAY 1: Arrival in Dijon
Arrival in Dijon, your hotel is situated in the heart of the city. Check in and presentation of the tour, delivery of the bicycles. There are many museums, churches and traditional buildings to discover including the Palais des Ducs and the church of Notre Dame. Monday – DAY 2: Loop ride around Dijon (40 km)
Breakfast and meeting with your guide. Riding today will take you out into the countryside around Dijon. Peaceful environment and sites including the Burgundy canal. Return to Dijon. Dinner at the restaurant in the town and overnight at the same hotel.

Tuesday — DAY 3: Dijon – Cote de Nuits vineyards – Beaune (~40-50km)
Meeting with your guide after breakfast. Leaving Dijon behind, you navigate out of the city and cycle into the countryside where the Route de Grands Crus begins. Arrive into the region of Gevrey Chambertin, the largest appellation in Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir country, and where you find some of France’s most famous wines including Vosne-Romanée, Fixin, Chambertin-clos-de-Bèze, Flagey-Echézeaux, Vougeot, Richebourg. Cycle on through the wine regions of Morey Saint Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot with vineyards all along the way on either side of you offering breathtaking scenery and crisp, fresh air! You continue through the highlands further on to Beaune. Overnight stay at 3* hotel centrally situated.

Wednesday – DAY 4: Loop ride south from Beaune – Cote de Beaune vineyards (~40-50km)
Today’s ride will take you through the famous vineyards of Pommard, Volnay…the kingdom of Burgundy Red wines. The ride is nice and flat all day long, and then curves back in towards the famous vineyards of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, charming villages which make the best white Chardonnay wines in the world. Back to Beaune in the afternoon. Overnight stay in the same hotel. A gourmet dinner included tonight.

Thursday – DAY 5: Beaune to Chalon sur Saône – Cote Chalonnaise vineyards (~40-50km)
Meeting with your guide after breakfast and departure for another bike ride. You definitely enter another vineyard region today, by visiting the spectacular vineyards of Cote Chalonnaise …. and leisurely stroll on the towpath of the Canal du Centre from Santenay to Chalon sur Saone. Dinner included tonight. Overnight stay in a 3* hotel.

Our tour takes you to the Côte de Nuits by E-Bike. You will ride from Gevrey-Chambertin to Nuits Saint Georges and cross the villages of Morey Saint Denis, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, ... moreVosne-Romanée.

After a short transfer by minibus from the train station in Dijon, your guide will do a briefing about how to use the Electric bicycle and adjust your helmet, you’ll ride in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, a world heritage UNESCO « Les Climats de Bourgogne ». All along the day everything is composed to make you feel the essence of gold and ruby Burgundy.

« La Route des Grands Crus », the Burgundy Champs-Elysées, is the spine of the day bike ride.

After landscape reading and wine explanation, It’s already wine time, let’s visit a winery in Vougeot with its typical cellar. You’ll walk through, taste a few wines and eat traditional “Gougeres”.

Back to bike and ride into the Grands Crus vineyards passing the famous Clos de Vougeot, then the iconic Romanee Conti, we may be able to see the owner 🙂 We get hungry, a few more kilometres on our quiet and safe paved road to join Nuits Saint Georges, capital of the Côte de Nuits vineyards for a traditional lunch.

Sorry, no nap, but again a peaceful bike ride to get back in Gevrey Chambertin and enjoy your last wine tasting. Here there is a special atmosphere, you’ll remember this place and there red wines!

By van, your guide will transfer you back to Dijon train station. The winemaker can deliver your order directly where you want.
