Activity Overview
Come and discover for yourself why Waiheke is recognized all over the world for its wines. You will visit three of the Island's premium vineyards with one of our expert local guides, all certified Bob Campbell Diploma holders and wine fanatics.
You will be collected from the Fullers ferry ex-Auckland by the guide, or from the Island, depending on your accommodation.
On the way, you will be stunned by the scenery around every corner, while your guide keeps you entertained with his commentary on the people, history, culture, geography, and the produce of Waiheke. The tour includes a two-hour lunch break at a beachside café, one of our top vineyard restaurants, or in a village to offer you a memorable gourmet experience. Lunch comes at an additional cost and we, therefore, recommend making a reservation for your table once you confirm your booking.
Lunch will be followed by a return trip to your accommodation or to the ferry back to Auckland.

  • 10:00 am - Depart Auckland on Fullers and sail towards Waiheke Island.
  • 10:35 am - Arrive at Matiatia, where you will be greeted on the wharf and the tour will start with a drive along the picturesque northern route, as you admire the dramatic views of the Hauraki Gulf, all the way to the Coromandel Peninsula.
  • 11:00 am – Tour the Stonyridge Vineyard for a wine tasting session. Stonyridge is a world-class wine producer of Cabernet blends that was established in 1982 and is the producer Larose, one of New Zealand’s cult wines. The Larose wine is available to taste for an extra charge. Here you will sample an array of their unique Waiheke wines which may include Chardonnay, Rose, Pinot Gris, Syrian blend (The Pilgrim), and Bordeaux blend (Faithful).
  • 12:00 pm – Tour the Te Motu Vineyard. Te Motu (‘The Island’), was one of the first Waiheke wine-growing estates, the Dunleavy family planted their first vines in 1989, resulting in the production of the first ‘Te Motu’ blend in 1993. You will get a chance to sample a selection of distinctive wine varieties produced here, including an opportunity to taste their premium Te Motu.
  • 12:45 pm – A trip to the Batch Vineyard, a towering vineyard on Waiheke Island, where its north overlooks the sun-soaked hillsides of vines that include terraces of historical and elegant Alsace-design vines, not far from the winery. This location offers you striking 360-degree views over the island stretching to the gulf islands. You will sample a range of their wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Flora. You will also try Batch Winery’s Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling wine.
  • 1:30 pm - Lunch is an open option where we can book you into a venue that fits you.
  • 3:30 pm - Pick up from the lunch venue.
  • 4:00 pm – Leave Waiheke on Fullers and sail back to Auckland through Devonport.

What a wonderful experience!
Booked The Essence of Waiheke Wine Tour at the recommendation of my friend/colleague, who had done the tour several years ago. Peter was absolutely brilliant and a fantastic tour guide, driver, historian, and willing photographer. It was clear to see how passionate he is about the island, as well as the winemakers, who enthusiastically greeted us at each stop.Your website made it very easy to book ... more and the calendar invitation was especially appreciated, as well as the e-mail reminder the day prior. The instructions to take the ferry was perfect -- and, I can't wait to come back for another tour. Thank you for a memorable and treasured experience! Kudos to Peter!
