The Mallorca’s tapas culture began during the 2008 financial crisis in Spain, La Crisis. Bars were not making enough sales on weekdays. So to increase sales, the local bar owners came up with the "Ruta Martiana" concept. It was all about reasonable prices and every Tuesday evening one drink ordered was accompanied with tapas. The tapas was made of a slice of bread with vegetables, fish, or meat toppings. The Ruta Martiana idea filled up the empty bars bringing old and new friends together as others sat on the lovely walkways and checking out different bars. It is a cherished Spanish ceremonial dinner that has been extended to the present day. It is a must try when visiting Mallorca.
On this Mallorca tapas tour, we will stroll the streets of Palma to sample the best tapas bars. Each bar has a custom-made tapas accompanied with either a glass of local wine, soft drink or a cold beer. As we continue with the tour, you can also try the biggest tortilla in Mallorca, some authentic Spanish jamón, fresh fish pinchos, or some grilled rib lambs.
