Activity Overview
For over a decade we have traveled the country leading educational tours in Lima and Cuzco. We have dedicated ourselves to finding the best restaurants in Peru, and we are eager to share them with you in this tour de force of culinary delight. These restaurants do not simply offer an experience for the palate. They deliver an experience for all the senses: a journey through tastes and textures, smells and sensations, and sights and sounds that ensnare the spirit. We want to share these experiences with people like you, who can spend all night talking about food, who can enjoy the intricacies of a fine meal, and who live to enjoy fantastic food. At the same time, we will arrange for you to discover a fascinating country. You will visit Machu Picchu, tour the Sacred Valley, and discover the city of Lima.

ITINERARY:

Day 1
The tour begins upon your arrival at Lima’s International airport.  Once you clear immigration and customs, you will be met by a driver who will transport you to the Hilton Lima Miraflores, located on Lima's Gastronomic Boulevard. Upon arrival at the Hilton, we will personally meet you to welcome you on this once-in-a-lifetime experience. There is no better way to start than with a Pisco Sour. You will most likely arrive in the evening, so no activities are planned for this day. However, should you wish to explore the city, we will be happy to recommend a place based on your preferences.

Day 2
We begin this day with breakfast at the hotel.  Try to refrain a bit and wear comfortable shoes as we will walk through Miraflores on our way to Sky Kitchen for a market tour, fruit tasting, and cooking lesson. This will introduce you to some of the basics of Peruvian cuisine in a fun, dynamic, and delicious environment. Once we conclude, we will return to the hotel where you can indulge in a swim on the roof-top pool, rest, do some early souvenir shopping, or explore a bit of the city. In the evening you will dine at Astrid y Gaston (ranked No. 39 in the world by The World's 50 Best Restaurants). You will enjoy the 17-course tasting menu and wine pairing.  Gastón Acurio is the chef that put Peru on the culinary map.  This is an experience not to be missed. After dinner, the evening is yours to enjoy on your own.

Day 3
We once again begin with breakfast before we head to the Casa de Gastronomía peruana where we will be guided through a history of Peruvian food. From there you will visit the Museo Larco and then the catacombs at the Convento de San Francisco. Once we conclude our tour, you will be taken back to Miraflores where you will be free to enjoy and explore this charming city.  You may stroll over to Larcomar for first class shopping, enjoy some of Lima’s best ceviche at Punto Azul, or enjoy a bird’s eye view of the coast with a paragliding experience.  We will be happy to arrange any of these for you. Tonight we will take a short walk so you can enjoy dinner at Maido (ranked No. 7 in the world by The World's 50 Best Restaurants), a Peruvian-Japanese fusion marvel where you will enjoy the Nikkei Experience: a 13 course tasting menu with a wine pairing constructed around each individual course. After dinner, enjoy a walk along the coast, stroll back to the hotel, or head out for a night of drinks with your new-found friends.

Day 4
We begin this day by checking out of the hotel and having breakfast before we head to the airport. Our short flight to Cuzco will depart early. Please pack an overnight bag for Machu Picchu as the rest of your luggage will be heading to your Cusco hotel. Upon arrival in Cusco, you will head out to tour the Sacred Valley. You will visit the Pisac Market and the Citadel at Pisac where you will enjoy the stunning panoramic views in every direction. You will not be back in Pisac so if you see something you like, buy it. You will enjoy a buffet lunch at Restaurante Tunupa before you board a train and head to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival and after we check in at the Tierra Viva Machu Picchu you will be free to wander this small town. There is a souvenir market where you can find almost anything for your friends back home.  Enjoy the rest of the evening on your own. Have dinner, buy some souvenirs, and go to sleep early. Be sure to get some rest. The day tomorrow starts extremely early.

Day 5
Today you awake early. A quick breakfast will prepare you to head up the mountain and see one of the Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu.  You will have an opportunity to visit the ruins of this absolutely magnificent site accompanied by our experienced guide.  You will then have an opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu and take in an even more impressive view of the mountain. After you finish your visit to Machu Picchu, you will take the bus back to Pueblo Machu Picchu. You may have some lunch before you board the train and return to Cuzco and check in at the JW Marriott El Convento Cusco. This is a wonderful hotel with everything within reach.  On the premises you will find an Ilaria jewelry shop, spa, and other amenities.  To help you acclimate to the altitude in Cusco, the rooms are oxygen enriched. This evening you will dine in MAP Cafe.  You will enjoy a 3-course meal accompanied by a delightful wine pairing.  You will enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the Museo de Arte Precolombino that surrounds this glass-encased restaurant. After dinner, you may stroll down to the main square and enjoy a night of dancing, stop at the Museo del Pisco for a night cap, or return to the hotel for some rest.

Day 6
Today will be a day of relative rest. We have only one activity planned and that is a Pachamanca: several meats marinated in local herbs cooked in a pit while you wait and savor the experience.  Chat with your friends, get to know the Cusco team, and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship. After your meal, you are free to enjoy the rest of your day as you see fit. This will be our last night in Cuzco.  You may spend it dancing at one of the many clubs that surround the Plaza de Armas, having a quiet drink, or resting. If you are looking for an adventure, we can arrange for other options.

Day 7
We will once again get an early start and visit the Moray Salt Mines. On the way, we will stop at Virgilio Martinez's new restaurant Mil where you will enjoy an 8-course tasting menu constructed around local ingredients and a drink pairing. Dress warmly as there is no heating in the restaurant, though blankets are provided. Mil opened in February of 2018 so you will be among the first to enjoy this experience. Martinez was awarded the Chef's Top Choice Award of 2017 as the World's Top Chef. You will have an opportunity to enjoy his creations twice! After we return to Cusco and have a short rest, you will dine at Pachapapa. If you are looking forward to trying cuy horneado, one of the more discussed local delicacies, this is your chance. Let me know as they need 1 hour notice to prepare it! This will be our last night in Cuzco.  You may spend it dancing at one of the many clubs that surround the Plaza de Armas, having a quiet drink, or recovering after a long day.

Day 8
Today we will get a late start and after checking out of our hotel, we will head back to the airport and return to Lima and the Hilton Lima Miraflores.  After we check in, you will have an opportunity to rest a bit before you dine at OSSO Carnicería y Salumería (ranked No. 12 in Latin America by Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants), a carnicería with a focus on sustainable meats.  After dinner enjoy a night in Lima. There are plenty of options depending on your preferences.

Day 9
Today you are free to enjoy the city of Lima as you see fit. We can arrange for any number of activities depending on your tastes.  In the evening, you will experience Virgilio Martinez’s Central (ranked No. 6 in the world by The World's 50 Best Restaurants). You will enjoy a journey through 17 courses designed to ellicit a complete physical response. A poem for the palate.  You will also enjoy a delicately constructed wine pairing that stokes the flavors of the meal. This may well be the highlight among many highlights of this culinary journey.

Day 10
Today you will check out of the hotel after breakfast and, sadly, our time together must come to an end but not before you have one final meal at La Mar (ranked No. 15 in Latin America by Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants).  Regarded as the best ceviche restaurant in Lima, La Mar will provide you the opportunity to taste a variety of ceviches and tiraditos. This will serve as your farewell to this experience. Those of you with late departures may enjoy the last few hours in the city by walking along the coast or trying your luck at the casino. Whenever you are ready, a car will be waiting to take you back to Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport. As you head back home, you will carry with you memories of sights, sounds, sensations, smells, and flavors that will serve as a reference point to other experiences.

Early in the morning your private transportation will pick you up for your tour to the Salt mines of Maras.

In our gastronomic experience, we will prepare Pachamanca, a traditional dish from the Andes whose name comes from the Quechua words Pacha (earth) and Manka (olla). We will show you the preparation and we will share this delicious dish with you.

11:00: We will place some stones (previously heated) in our artisanal oven dug in the ground, then we will put on top of the stones the spiced and seasoned meats, as well as tubers and vegetables; then we will place a layer of hot stones and so on. We will wait for the stones to warm up and go to visit the Salt Mines, also called Maras salt evaporation ponds. A myriad of salt crusted terraces precariously nestles against the steep mountain sides, while a steady stream of mineral rich water trickles down with a silent gargling that somehow defies time.
