We welcome you to the island of Sardinia, famous for its pure adventurers and diverse landscape which is ideal for exploration. Sardinia is not just a beach paradise as it encompasses an open playground for multisport active holidays while boasting scenic beaches, mountains, forests and hilltop villages. Sardinia is scantily populated with spectacular views all around, you are unrestricted to explore. You will spend a week traversing the virgin Landscapes of the island. The exploration takes you from the ancient west coast of Oristano to the sunbathed southern Pula beaches. The excursion will start in Medieval villages such as Cuglieri, Bosa, and Santu Lussurgiu down to Oristano rich in relics. There is a winding coastal ride ideal for a cyclist as it offers memorable Mediterranean views which gives a powerful adrenaline rush. The real highlights of the trip are the definite rock formations and the unique ancient stone fortresses located in the mountainous Sardinian interior.

Sardinia island is home to over 7,000 Nuraghi, (stone towers), which are Bronze Age castle precursors established between 1600 and 1100 B.C. You will visit the legendary and comprehensive Nuragic tower and village, the Su Nuraxi in Barumini, which boasts a UNESCO World Heritage status. The mountains boast numerous ancient mines and rough trails which can be located through the cork oak forests and thick green Mediterranean vegetation. You will discover the auxiliary islands while seafaring in Carloforte as you enjoy the special tasting customary dishes. Sardinian cuisine is a blend of cultures and traditions. The recipes are based on either wild boar, pork, lamb, and or seafood specialties cooked in diverse Mediterranean styles based on local traditions. The cuisine is characterized by a variety of cheeses, olive oils and good wines locally made in Sardinia, which includes sweet wines.

Itinerary

Arrival Day - Welcome to Oristano!
You will start your tour with an exclusive transfer from Cagliari Airport to your first accommodation. afterward, you will ‘meet and greet' and then participate in bike fitting in Santu Lussurgiu. You will test out your bike on a ride that will take you to Bonarcado, where you will see the Montiferru canyon and then return for a tour briefing. Later on, you will enjoy a traditional dinner at a regional agriturismo S’Olostrighe. You will definitely love exploring the medieval stone buildings of Santu Lussurgiu, constructed in a semicircle amphitheater layout, and snaking along the twisting and slim improvised lanes of this Sardinian town located on the hilltop. You will be served Dinner inclusive.

Day 2 |Cycling throughout Oristano prehistoric towns and olive oil tasting (Cycling 56 miles or 32 miles with partial transfer by van).
You will tour some of the legendary medieval villages in the province of Oristano on this route through the fresh-water springs of San Leonardo and scenic cork oak forests. One striking view of the ride is the impressive Castle Malaspina, that peeks through the beach of Bosa and colorful fishermen houses on the seaport. You will then stop in Cuglieri for a local natural olive oil tasting. Along the way on this ride, you will admire the magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea! In the afternoon, you will immerse yourself in a cooking lesson, and later on, have dinner at Hotel Antica Dimora del Gruccione. This loop biking to Bosa via San Leonardo and back through Cuglieri boasts magnificent rolling hills with some climbs. You will be served Breakfast and Dinner inclusive.

Day 3 Bottarga tasting, Hiking Montiferru Mountain range, and the Sinis peninsula.
The day starts from Santu Lussurgiu, high up in the extinct volcano, the Montiferru mountain range, you will hike down the mountain through thick cork oak forests and rough terrain. You will experience the scent of mountain flowers like the Phoenician Juniper and fruits as you descend towards the coast to Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, the summer resort village. Your picnic lunch will overlook the sensational natural rock formations and cliffs created by the sea and wind. After lunch, you will shift to the Sinis peninsula for a visit to the Tharros museum and an afternoon hike before transferring to Oristano by van where you will check into your hotel for the night. On the way, you will make a stop in the town of Cabras, renowned for its stone warrior giants and lagoons. The trip consists of 2 hours hiking in the morning, and 3 hours hiking in the afternoon. You will be served Breakfast and Lunch inclusive.

Day 4 Wine tasting at Olianas winery and Cycling to Barumini.
The day starts in Oristano, where you will ride inland through mini villages. As you move inland, the route gets hilly so ensure to eat a good breakfast! As you pass through mini towns, you will observe prehistoric Nuragic rock towers, some with medieval ruins of villages and tomb remnants of the giants. You will ride past Su Nuraxi, the legendary and the highly intact of all the medieval stone fortresses in all of Sardinia, located in the town of Barumini. Once in this location, you will be able to take a tour in the company of a guide as you stroll inside the ruins, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will enjoy a light lunch in Barumini, then visit the town's museum. Afterward, you will enjoy a local wine tasting experience at the magnificent Cantina Olianas in the adjacent town of Gergiei. After the tasting exercise, you will be transferred to Guspini, to your accommodation. Oristano to Barumini covers a distance of 35 miles which is mostly flat countryside with rolling hills. You will be served Breakfast and Dinner inclusive.

Day 5 Family food of Carloforte and Hiking the Green coast.
You will take a break from the bike to enjoy striking hiking. After a brief but picturesque transfer to Buggerru, you will start your hike through the scenery, as you pass various deserted mines. Many of the mines have been transformed into museums and are open to the public for tours. You will hike to the special mines adjacent to the Cala Domestica situated amidst the Porto Flavia white limestone cliffs, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will admire the seaside mine in Masua with spectacular scenic views of the coast and the Pan di Zucchero rock. Lunch will be served at the restaurant Nebida, which offers a panoramic, discoid walkway overlooking the rough and lofty coastline. Afterward, you will be transferred to Portoscuso, to catch a 40-minute ferry ride to the Island of San Pietro. Hotel Riviera located in the heart of the village, just a few meters from the ferry dock, is a suitable location to spend a relaxing holiday as you discover the stunning terrain of the island of San Pietro. You will be served Breakfast and Dinner inclusive.

Day 6 A visit to Carloforte Genoese city and Kayaking at San Pietro island.
You will have a chance to experience the stunning, crystal clear water you have been admiring throughout the excursion as you kayak off the coast of the island as you visit the city of Carloforte Genoese. You will explore the wetlands and shores surrounding San Pietro island as you discover the numerous compact coves like La Bobba Beach or Cala Fico. After a classic Genoese-style lunch, you will embark on a guided tour of a specific fishing village. Hotel Riviera located in the heart of the village, just a few meters from the ferry dock, is a suitable location to spend a relaxing holiday as you discover the stunning terrain of the island of San Pietro. You will be served Breakfast inclusive.

Day 7 Cycling the memorable Sardinia South Coast and farewell dinner at agriturismo!
You will be reunited with your bike for a cruise from Sant Anna Arresi to Pula. You will then take a ferry from the Island of San Pietro to Calasetta and be transferred to where your ride starts, at the Porto Pino port. Your ride will cover one of the most scenic routes of the Mediterranean region as you follow the southwest coastal roads of Sardinia. You will treat yourself to an artisanal gelato as you walk around downtown Pula, keeping in mind to save room for a genuine Sardinian dinner. You will cover a distance of 36-mile rolling hills with minimal climbs.
Nora Club Hotel and SPA is a stylish 4-Star hotel located in Pula, adjacent to the beach and is surrounded by the greens while boasting a well-tended garden and a spacious pool, that includes a hydro-massage area. The shaded spots, the hall and lounge areas are ideal for a moment’s relaxation, and also to enjoy a delicious snack outdoors, anytime the time of day. The hotel is sheltered from the chaos in the adjacent Cagliari and is also close to the beaches and the countryside of Southern Sardinia.

Day 8 Departure day
The day concludes your Trail to Table exploration of Sardinia! We say farewell in style after breakfast as you depart for your transfer to Cagliari Airport.

Distance: 55km/day - this trip is a combination of cycling and hiking with a little bit of paddling - some experience recommended. Level: Level 3 Moderate; terrain is rolling and distances while moderate are affected by altitude. Longer and shorter options exist. Moderate hiking and sea kayaking included.

You will be accommodated at the delightful family-run Il Querceto Hotel in Dorgali, which boasts a massive roof-terrace that offers a spectacular extensive view of the Dorgali mountainside. You’ll be taken on winery visits with wine-tastings, as well as to local beauty spots like the sea-caves neighboring Cala Gonone. You will also get the opportunity to hike along the breath-taking countryside if the weather conditions allow.

ARRIVAL DAY:
Dinner will be reserved for you at the hotel’s Bistro Bar from 7.30 pm. You can check in any time of the day after 2 pm.

Day 1:
Breakfast at the hotel
Soon after breakfast, your guide will take you on a tour of Atha Ruja’s Biodynamic vineyards. Here you will taste their excellent wines and have a bit of wine-and-matching with a platter of cured meats and cheeses.

You can choose according to your preference, either to be taken up a scenic mountain path or for a stroll in the countryside along the Canyon, or around town. Lunch at the hotel’s bistro or a local restaurant.

Afternoon. You will tour the massive Dorgali Wine Co-operative and indulge in some wine tasting. In case it is operating at the time for visits we’ll also plan for you a trip to the adjacent cheese factory.

We can also plan a visit to some of the most extensive underground caves, or we can allocate time for some more strolling. We can alternatively take you for a drive through the picturesque local scenery. Dinner served at the Hotel Bistro.

Day 2:
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll visit a winery neighboring Oliena with wine-tasting!
Lunch – Probably at the winery, but because is not always convenient, we might go to a local eatery.
Afternoon tour to a second winery in the region with wine-tasting.
Head back to the hotel
Enjoy dinner served at the Hotel’s Bistro restaurant.

Day 3:
After breakfast at the Hotel, you’ll head to Cala Gonone. From here you will embark on a boat journey to the neighboring sea caves that are packed with breath-taking stalagmites and stalactites. There will be an extra boat stop at a delightful sandy beach. Ensure to bring swimwear with you, in case you have opted for a summery season.
Lunch at Nuoro or Cala Gonone or beach restaurant .
For those not extending for the cooking class, we can organize transfers to their selected airport. It is a requirement to have checked out of the rooms after breakfast. For those extending their stay, we can organize an afternoon tour to Nuoro, a town with numerous museums and exhibitions with a possible trip to a wine village such as Gavoy.
Dinner at Hotel

Day 4:
After breakfast, you’ll participate in a private cookery class at the hotel.
You’ll savor the fruit of your making for lunch with some fine local Canonau wine.
Transfers to be organized at your convenience. Checkout from the rooms is required to be by noon.
