Activity Overview
Though the vineyards of Montmartre past were considered to be among the best in Paris, the Clos Montmartre today is more of a novelty than a quality wine producer. The vineyard dates from 1932 and produces about 1000 kilos of grapes each year from as many as 27 different varietals. The annual harvest is the occasion for a highly spirited neighbourhood festivity that evokes a kind of village fête.

15 centuries of Parisian wine history
Historical, cultural, tasting tours that walk you through the vinous history of Paris... discover the wine background of the quarter and savour a themed wine tasting in the very best wine cellars in the city. History comes alive as we tread upon the ancient soils of Paris' forgotten terroirs. Morning tours feature wine tastings and optional lunches in select wine bars, while afternoon tours offer wine tastings and optional aperitif wine bar dishes, some tours combining visits to open markets, bakeries, cheese shops or specialty food shops. Our choice of wine bars and wines offer natural, living wines made organically and biodynamically - wines bursting with real taste.

Paris' most famous wine producing vineyard in one of its most visited neighbourhoods. Closed to the public, this exclusive visit includes a comprehensive history of the 'clos' and a tasting of the very rare wine it produces.

Practical information
The distances we walk are not big, we are on our feet (or bicycles) most of the time, so good walking shoes and weather appropriate attire are essential. All tastings include seasonal nibbles (cheese, bread, raw vegetables...) and at least 2 wines (one white, one red). Though all of the 'vineyards' we visit produce grapes, only Montmartre produces wine. The wine tastings include wines from other parts of France that use varietals grown or comparable to those grown in the Paris region in the Middle Ages.

Please let us know if you have food allergies or intolerances when you make the booking. This tour generally includes gluten (bread), pork (charcuterie), dairy (raw cheese) and fish (ex. oysters, smoked salmon)

Frequently Asked Questions
The tastings include a minimum of two wines and generally three. The wines selected vary from one tour to another as they always correspond to the vines planted in the vineyard we have visited. Though these are wines made in other regions of France, and NOT the wines produced in the vineyards themselves (access to these wines, with the exception of Montmartre, is very limited and production too small to allow for public consumption), they still connect us to the grape varieties we have seen and also allow us to connect to the spirit of wine.
All of the wine bars and wine shops we visit feature organic, biodynamic and ‘natural’ wines as we are committed to living wines with real taste that don't give headaches and also preserve soils, reducing CO2 emissions and allowing water-tables to stay clean. In other words, wines without pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, chemical yeasts, chemical additions or fertilizers - wines that are made from grapes and nothing else.
We have made an effort to find wine shops and wine bars that are close to the vineyards and so walking is limited, though may involve distances of a kilometre or more, all told. We don’t spend much time sitting down, so make sure you’re able to walk and stand for two to three hours.
Of course, but there is no reduction offered for not participating in the wine tastings.
This is a decision parents must make, keeping in mind that our tours are explicitly designed for adults and feature adult experiences (wine tasting), and detailed discussion. There are no discounts for children. The legal age for buying alcohol in France is eighteen, and for consumption, sixteen.
Our tours run rain or shine and so we suggest you prepare accordingly. Much of each tour will be outdoors and in the streets, though the wine tastings are of course in the shelter of a wine shop or wine bar. No cancellations due to weather are accepted.

Around this market, the diversity of shops related to the art of good cooking impresses gourmets who are the most passionate about its diversity and richness.

You even will enjoy wine with cheese or delicatessen on an old wine barrel ! Or mingle with the locals and sip a hot chocolate or hot wine during the winter or an aperitif in summer.

You will feel like one of the locals as you chat to shopkeepers and taste local cheeses, cured meats and chocolate.

On this food tour you will also be able to learn from the history of this very special market but also from our entire country with the place of the Bastille, symbol of the French revolution.
