Activity Overview
Explore the celebrated wine region Stellenbosch known for excellent wine, food, people and culture with your private wine expert ... truly the perfect way to experience the Cape of South Africa!

Stellenbosch and the surrounding wine regions have long been recognised as places worth celebrating. From beautiful vineyards that are planted in some of the oldest soils in the world, to the avenues of oak trees that line the streets of the town of Stellenbosch.

Here in South Africa we like to celebrate life. We do that through food and wine and people and culture.  Join us as we take you on a journey of the senses in one of South Africa’s most highly acclaimed wine producing regions. Visit wineries that have been making wine for over 350 years. Visit dusty, cobwebbed cellars,  state of the art wineries, walk in vineyards and taste wine that is a true expression of the terroir.

Your first stop takes you to Jordan wine estate, which is renowned for terroir-inspired wines that combine the fruity accessibility of the New World with the classic elegance of the old. The team at De Morgenzon, your second stop, believe in the power of music and vibrations. Here you’ll learn why playing baroque music is good for growing grapes. Taste for yourself and see if you agree!

Your second tasting takes you to De Morgenzon wine estate where they believe in the power of music and vibrations. Here you’ll learn why they play Baroque music to the vines and why it is good for growing grapes. Taste the award-winning wines for yourself and see if you agree!

When you’ve finished learning about Bach, Handel and Vivaldi your specialist guide will take you to the sleek and eco-friendly Cavalli Wine & Stud Farm for a wine tasting and lunch. Equus, the restaurant at Cavalli is excellent and the views over the water are exceptional.

Giraffes, wildebeest, eagles & crocodiles – a unique, truly African experience exploring wine and animals in the South African winelands.... more

If you’re looking for a uniquely South African experience then this is it. On this tour you experience what it’s like to actually pet and hold some of the animals only found in Africa. It’s a truly remarkable feeling and one that is not quickly forgotten. You’ll also taste the world-class wine made on the estates after each animal encounter.

Start your day with a wildlife safari at Villiera, a wine estate known for their commitment to preserving the environment and the animals in it. The abundance of wildlife on the estate is testament to their constant efforts and means you will be exposed to beautiful animals like giraffe, zebra, springbok, eland and kudu to name but a few. Your safari will be followed by a tasting of the superb Methode Cap Classique (sparkling wine or MCC) for which Villiera is renowned. A fine wine tasting safari experience enjoyed by many locals and travellers alike.

After your MCC tasting you will be taken to the Eagle Encounters rehabilitation and conservation centre on the Spier wine estate where you’ll get up close and personal with rare and endangered birds of prey. If you’re lucky you’ll get to hold an eagle or an owl in the touching gallery, or you can take part in a breath-taking falconry display, with kites, buzzards, owls and other birds swooping around you. There’s much more to the centre than just birds though – you can also hang out with Sonic the porcupine and Drogon the bearded dragon. Spier is also celebrated for the world-class wine produced on the estate. Spend some time sniffing and swirling your way through the Spier range and perhaps walk away with a bottle or two.

If you can tear yourself away from your new feathered (and spiked and horned and scaled) friends, it’s time to head to Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm for a truly South African safari wine tour.

At Le Bonheur you’ll witness these prehistoric reptilian beasts in all their scaly glory. You’ll also be tasked with holding one of mama crocs little guys…a truly unique African safari wine tour experience.

Discover the wines and wineries that are celebrated for full-bodied, top quality reds and have contributed to the distinct heritage of the South African wine industry. ... more

You’ll start your tour off at a South African classic: Meerlust. Long recognized for producing world-class wines, Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. Be sure to taste the award-winning red blend, the Rubicon, which recently received a 92 from famous wine critic Robert Parker.

After you’ve tasted the stunning array of Meerlust wines, you’ll move onto the next prominent wine farm: Kanonkop, ‘where the big guns roar’. Situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, it confidently boasts some of South Africa’s most distinguished red wines. The Kanonkop Pinotage was one of The Platters Guide’s wines of the year in 2015 and continues to be a celebrated example of South African wine making.

From Kanonkop you will be delivered to the next winery, Muratie, a place of rich heritage and unsurpassed character. Truly, the tasting room is built into an old, disused cellar and is adorned with cobwebs and paintings of the previous owners mistress. Then it’s onto the last stop, Rust en Vrede. This was the first farm to specialise in the exclusive production of red wine only, and is another one of South Africa’s most well-respected red wine estates.

(Did you know: Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner, it was the first South African red wine listed in the Top 100 Wines of the World and repeated this achievement for four consecutive years).
