The residents of Mallorca enjoy sitting around a table to enjoy a homemade Heirbas; a liquor made from local herbs such as anise. Perhaps you’ll love to come and learn how to make ... moreHeirbas like a local. That’s alright! We’ll all meet at the Palma bus station and then proceed to the village of Epsorles; one of the scenic spots in the area. Here, will stroll around picking the herbs to make the Heirbas liquor.

Some herbs are not easy to find. Hence, we’ll have to visit some locals and get the herbs from them. You’ll love the encounter with the locals in Mallorca. Upon getting the herbs, we’ll assemble on the guide’s patio to start the preparation. He’ll take you through the making process. Later, we’ll have some snack as we mingle and enjoy the sunset in Spain. Interestingly, the Heirbas won’t be ready yet. So you won’t taste what you’ve brewed just yet. However, you’ll have the opportunity to taste some that were earlier prepared and is now ready. As for your Heirbas, don’t worry. You’ll take it with you. You’ll need to allow it to ferment for at least three months. After that, call some friends and enjoy the Heirbas; just like a Mallorca local.

Travel through the streets of stunning Kyoto, Japan and learn about the 400-year-old tradition of Japanese sake brewing.  Your sake brewing tour will begin in the Fushimi district ... moreof Kyoto, your guide will take you through the streets of this stunning town to various traditional and modern sake breweries allowing you to get a sense of the area’s 400 year-old Japanese sake brewing tradition. Fushimi is known for brewing some of the best sake in the world, the secret lies in the natural spring water of the area. Since the water has less magnesium and calcium than other parts of Japan or the world in general, the sake produced in this area reaches levels of purity and taste that other areas can not replicate.

Brewing typically takes place in the cold months of the year after the rice crop has been harvested and as a result, the air around Fushimi is saturated with the smell of fermenting rice during this time of year.

Fushimi is a festive neighborhood that comes to life each day with sake bars and vendors selling their local sake.

During your tour, we will spend time at the Gekkeikan Okura sake museum where the history of sake is explained. Since they have been making sake since 1637, with a nearly 4 century-old process, you really see how things have been done for generations.

At the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum, we will also get a chance to see the sake brewery. You will get a sense of the traditional brewing process which involves a combination of water, malt, yeast and steamed rice. The different cut or variety of rice plays a big part of the distinction of the sake. If a grain of rice has less grain shaved off, it is more bitter. Generally, the more grain is shaved, the sweeter it will taste.

Of course, you will have an opportunity to sample different kinds of sake at the end of the tour. If you find a type you like, the brewery shop carries around 80 varieties for you to purchase and take home.

Tour Highlights:

3-hour tour of Kyoto’s Fushimi district

Visit a small and large sake brewery to get a sense of the differences of scale and try their sake and other products.

Guided tour at the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum

See how a brewery works and get a sense of what goes into the production of the world’s best sake.

Browse the shops at a local shopping arcade for souvenirs unique to the area.

On this tour, you will have a chance to learn about all the ins and outs of the sake brewing process, but due to sanitation and brewing laws in Japan, we will not be able to see the actual active sake brewing areas.

There are two ways to make rum. One is by using sugar cane and the other by using a product of this – molasses. There are many differences between the two, but the main one is the ... morereason that molasses was ‘invented’ in the first place; sugar cane has a limited growing season. Molasses contains preservatives and can be stored and used when sugar cane is out of season. It’s a difficult process to repeat each time with any consistency, and the quality of the rum made from this is equally variable, and is categorized as ‘industrial rum’. The good stuff, the really magical and top-notch white rum made directly from cane sugar, it bears the proud certification of ‘rhum agricole’.

In Thailand there is only one accredited rum distillery. And that’s here, on Koh Samui.

The ‘Magic Alambic Rum Distillery’ was set up in 2003, as a family business, by the husband and wife team of Elisa and Michel Gabriel. Every bottle that comes out of the Magic Alambic distillery is made of sugar cane. There are no preservative or additives of any kind in their rum, they use high-quality sugar cane that’s locally grown – one tonne of cane produces 700 litres of juice when crushed. And, after it has been made, it’s left to mature for one year before it goes on sale. They have several flavours; obviously the first one is the natural white rum. Then they have pineapple, lemon, orange and coconut. And all of the fruits are pure essences with no artificial flavourings added. It has a sweet smell because of the cane sugar but not a sweet or sticky taste. It’s high quality and very smooth, with no ‘throat burn’ at all. And you won’t get a hangover in the morning.

Although you can often find this magical rum behind the bars of many of the better resorts and restaurants across the island, the only place you can be sure of buying a bottle for yourself is from the distillery. And it’s a delightful spot to visit, tucked away in a little peaceful world of its own, down in Ban Thale, in the southern part of Samui. It’s quiet and secluded, with a separate little thatched bar where you can relax and sample shots of all the different flavours – you can even take a break from your resort and stay in one of their lovely bungalows for a day or so (or if you suddenly find that your driving skills have become somewhat impaired from all those samples!

During the ‘making’ season, which matches the cane production between January and May, you can book a tour of the production process itself – which is utterly fascinating!

Welcome!

The wild and remote setting of Glenlivet has been the home of the single malt that inspired a region. From this beautiful glen comes the raw elements of rich mineral Spring waters of Josie’s Well, crisp fresh mountain air and an uncompromising terrain that combined create the foundation of a whisky of infinite elegance. Over two hundred years ago, whisky was closely bound up in the lives of every family in the glen of the Livet. It was local farmer George Smith who was renowned for his fine ‘illicit’ whisky, in 1824 seized upon the opportunity to obtain the first license to produce whisky ‘legally’ in the parish of Glenlivet. He knew exactly where to build his new distillery and went on to produce a spirit that would define the Speyside style of whisky which became the heartland of Scotch malt whisky production. The Glenlivet is in the heartland of malt whisky country and a visit to this grand distillery will take you on a fascinating journey to the source of one of the greatest names in Scotch whisky.

Glenfiddich Distillery
Back in 19th century William Grant and his family built their Distillery by hand, stone by stone and called it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. William’s passion, determination and pioneering spirit continues to guide us today. Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt* Scotch Whisky, a true reflection of our founder’s innovative nature, passed down through the generations.

Day 4 - Talisker Distillery
Today we travel to the magnificent Isle of Skye to visit the oldest and only working distillery – Talisker Distillery. Set on the shores of Loch Harport with dramatic views of the Cuillins, Talisker is an alluring, sweet, full-bodied single malt that’s so easy to enjoy, and like Skye itself, so hard to leave. Talisker is the only Single Malt Whisky made on the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, rugged, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Few whisky’s tell the story of their origins better than those crafted at this distillery. We will try different types of whisky.

Overnight on the Isle of Skye

Day 5 - Ben Nevis Distillery

Established in 1825 and situated at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, Ben Nevis distillery is an impressive and historic place. Incorporated within Ben Nevis Distillery is The Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis Visitor Centre built into an old distillery warehouse. In a specially commissioned audiovisual presentation, you will meet Hector McDram, a mythical giant who will reveal the secret Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis. Following this, you will receive a conducted tour of the production areas by a trained guide and a complementary tasting.

Overnight is at Fort William.

Day 6 - Glengoyne distillery
After breakfast we leave Fort William and travel to Glasgow. On our route we will visit famous Glengoyne distillery. The distillery sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. In 1833, the local farmer, George Connell was granted the license to legally produce whisky in the area. He founded the Burnfoot Distillery, which became Glenguin Distillery in 1861, then, in 1906, became Glengoyne. In 1984, Lang Brothers received a Royal Warrant, having supplied whisky to the Queen Mother. Now it is owned by Ian MacLeod who bought it from Edrington group. Glengoyne enjoys the slowest rate of distillation in Scotland (the spirit comes from the Still at around 4-5 litres per minute) which encourages the formation of ‘esters’ giving Glengoyne its characteristically sweet, smooth taste. The spirit is then matured in oak casks from Spain, which have previously contained Sherry. Ian Macleod Distillers look after this whole process. We will have opportunity to see whole process of producing whisky and to taste samples from the cask and help Glengoyne select Distillery Exclusive Single Cask release. And there’s more. You’ll create your own Glengoyne Highland Single Malt

After visiting distillery we travel on to Glasgow where we will stay overnight.
