Experience an unforgettable culinary weekend at Mapuyampay Lodge Gastronómico & Cooking School hosted by Vicente Escobar, a wine lover, entrepreneur and poet, and Ruth Van Waerebeek, an internationally acclaimed chef, and cookbook author. Mapuyampay is located just 2.5 hours south of Santiago - Chile's capital, nestled in the foothills of the majestic Andes Mountains. We are located off the beaten path, right in the heart of Chile’s wine country and only 50 km away from the Andean village Los Queñes, and the colonial town of Santa Cruz. The ideal place for interesting day trips and exploring Chile’s wine country.

WEEKEND ITINERARY

Thursday
  • Arrival during the afternoon at Mapuyampay
  • Welcome drink followed by gastronomic dinner experience
  • Overnight accommodation
Friday

Morning:
  • Buffet breakfast from 9:00 - 10:45 AM
  • “Creative Chilean Flavors” cooking class from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM (4 hours) and wine pairing 
Afternoon:
  • Visit the Miguel Torres, Montes or San Pedro vineyard
  • Dinner at a local restaurant (Not included in price)
Saturday

Morning:
  • Breakfast: 9:00 AM
  • Cooking and wine pairing class “Creative Flavors of the World” and wine tasting of three reserve wines: from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (3 hours)
Afternoon: Free time
  • Activities such as relaxing by the pool, trekking, cycling trips, horse rides, rafting, olive groves visit and oil tasting (activities require scheduling and are not included in the price)
Night:
  • Light dinner: Mediterranean flavors
Sunday
  • Farewell brunch: (quiche, fruits, homemade jams, waffles or french toasts)
  • Check-out: 1:00 PM

Ruth and Vicente (owners and hosts) have created a very special atmosphere in a beautiful and private lodge. They are outstanding hosts who are very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We stayed for 4 days/3 nights and wish we had stayed longer. It is honestly one of the most enjoyable vacations we have EVER taken, and we have travelled extensively.They offers a variety of accommodation and activities. ... more We stayed in a well-equipped cabin with a private bathroom and terrace. We had a great view of the Andes Mountains and their beautifully landscaped gardens. It was very private and relaxing. You can go horse riding, hiking, river rafting, biking, enjoy the pool or join a cooking class with Ruth, who is an internationally accomplished chef (any of her meals will attest to that!!). We participated in the cooking class which consisted of preparing a three-course meal starting with Salmon grav lax and a Swiss Chard salad, continuing with a Mushroom Quinoa risotto with Pancetta, and finishing with a Cherry Compote Chocolate Mousse. Throughout the class Ruth took time to explain knife skills, food preparation, and food plating techniques and adapted recipes to accommodate allergies and food preferences. Vicente and Ruth also did an excellent job pairing the local wines to suit each dish. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the meal.Several nights during our stay we took advantage of the gastronomic dinner menu that Ruth offers. Each meal was extraordinary and mostly prepared with homegrown ingredients. Again each dish was perfectly paired with a local wine.Both Ruth and Vicente were extremely helpful in sharing recommendations and scheduling day trips during our stay. We enjoyed a drive through the mountains in the Central Valley, a tour of Lapostolle Winery, and an enjoyable lunch at Fuegos de Apalta (at Montes vineyard).We would be remiss if we did not mention the complimentary breakfast that they provide. From yoghurt, a variety of freshly baked breads and pastries, to cheeses, meats, homemade preserves, coffee, tea, and freshly squeezed fruit juice. It was excellent.From our very first communication to enquire about availability and throughout our stay, Ruth and Vicente made our comfort and enjoyment their priority. It is definitely a place that we will recommend to our family and friends. We are determined to make it back for another visit.
